What Everyone Must Know About That Time I Met Actress Regina King [VIDEO]

What everyone must know about that time I met Academy Award winning actress, Regina King is that she’s down to earth, embodies black excellence and a class act! I have had the honor of meeting Regina King on three different occasions. My first encounter was on a red carpet at an event in Beverly Hills, CA. I had never been on a red carpet of any kind before so, it was both exciting and frightening. I was covering an event for my friend Stan Washington who was the editor of The Atlanta Voice newspaper.

Stsn Washington and I at The Atlanta Voice

My Regna King encounter was the most memorable moment of the entire night. I stood right next to Entertainment Tonight and was shell shocked and unprepared. Imagine standing next to one of the biggest celebrity media outlets in the world, without a camera, a microphone or any recording device whatsoever. I was so green! When I look back now all I can do is laugh. I had no idea what I was even doing. I literally just had a notepad and pen to document the event. Even though it was 2005, I showed like media from the 1960’s.

I remember Stevie Wonder being right in front of me and his handlers quickly walked him away because I appeared to be a nobody. I don’t blame Stevie though because we all know he had no idea.

It was all going downhill until Regina King walked by. She not only stopped right in front me, looked me dead in the eye when she spoke to me and answered my questions like I really was Entertainment tonight. I will never forget how kind she was and how special she made me feel in that moment.

The next time I met Regina King was virtually. I was selected to ask her a question on Hufffpost Live. She was just as kind via the internet as she was in person. You can see for yourself below.

My final encounter came years later at actress Holly Robinson’s 50th birthday party which was held in Malibu. I covered the red carpet as Studio Q for this event so I had come along way since my first experience.

Regina did not walk the red carpet so I had no idea she was even present at the party. It was when my friend and I were packing up our equipment to leave that I saw her walking from the bathroom.

When I saw her I had no shame. I immediately made a beeline to her for a photo, which is pictured above.

She said, “I. tell you what, f you zip my jumpsuit up in the back, I’ll take a photo with you.”

“Of course!” I replied.

Regina King was so down to earth and kind, which I always love to mention because everybody ain’t whether they are a celebrity or not. She was such a nice person, which makes it even more devastating to learn of the horrible loss she recently suffered.

On January 22nd Regina King suffered the worst tragedy a mother could ever endure. Her son, Ian Alexander Jr., passed away from suicide just days after his 26th birthday. It was her one and only child whom she shared with her ex-husband, record producer Ian Alexander Sr. I am sending a lifetime worth of healing energy to Regina King and her family. I don’t know her personally , but my positive encounters with her made me feel like a family member suffered the lost instead of just a famous actress. I pray that she is surrounded by love and continuous support during this time.

Quencie Talks To Regina King on HuffPost Live

I was thrilled to be invited to ask two time Emmy-award winning Regina King a question on HuffPost Live.  The first time I met Regina King was on a red carpet during my first year in LA.   I was there to ask celebrities questions standing with no camera or a voice recorder right next to Entertainment Tonight.  Instead, I remember having a pen and pad.  Yes, I know right - rolls eyes.

Even though, I had no idea what I was doing Regina King still stopped and talked to me.  I will l ways remember that.  She could have so easily side stepped me.  Celebrities run past reporters without thinking twice.  The fact that she didn't says a lot about her.  I still smile when I think of that moment.  She was already one of my favorite actresses, but after this day she became one of my favorite people.
