Quencie Interviews Actor, David Oyelowo

I am so excited I got a chance to interview actor David Oyelowo at the Icon Mann Pre-Oscar event, which celebrated black men in entertainment. David Oyelowo has played supporting roles in the films such as Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011), Middle of Nowhere (2012), Lincoln (2012), and garnered praise for portraying Louis Gaines in The Butler (2013).

In 2014, Oyelowo played Martin Luther King, Jr. in the biographical drama film Selma, for which he received a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actor (Drama). He also starred in the HBO movie Nightingale, for which he won a Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Actor in a Movie/Miniseries and was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie. I absolutely loved his role in Queen of Katwe opposite Oscar winning actress Lupita N'yongo. This guy is a great actor and I was thrilled to get a chance to speak with him. Quencie Interviews Singer, Kelly Price

I interviewed Kelly Price on the red carpet of Kym Whitley's birthday party.  She was so down to earth and fun.  She even sang Happy Birthday to Kym Whitley. Kelly Price gives me so much life with that voice. Even though she only sang a little bit of Happy Birthday you could not tell me that I was not in a VIP seat at a concert.  Watch my interview below.  She even gave me some twitter love about the interview. I love when that happens.

Quencie Interviews Actress, Kellita Smith of Z Nation

I interviewed Kellita Smith at the NAACP Theater Awards about her role as Roberta Warren in the Syfy post-apocalyptic series, Z Nation.  She is always so much fun when I see her. I met her years ago when I was PA for a day on 'The Bernie Mac Show.'  Kellita is best known for her role as Wanda McCullough in the Fox sitcom The Bernie Mac Show from 2001-2006. I will never forget how she took the time to encourage me about doing my own show, Studio Q. "There are thousands of people who want to do what I do," she said to me about acting, "But you want to do something that's not so saturated. And you got a master's degree, please! You are not a PA. ( A PA is a production assistant) The next time I see you," she said pointing in my face, "It better be with a microphone and a camera crew."  I had only been in LA a year when we had this conversation so the next time I seen Kellita was to pick up my check. I remember giving her a Thank you card for those words.  However, a few years later, I saw her at a Miki Howard concert with my microphone and camera asking for an interview.  You never know who is going to inspire you and share words of wisdom that will really resonate with you. I will always appreciate how she took the time to lift me up. Thanks Kellita. Check out my interview below.

Quencie Interviews Emmy Award Winning Actress, Viola Davis

A few years back I had the distinct pleasure and honor to speak to Emmy award winning actress Viola Davis and her husband Julius Tennon on the purple carpet of Halle Berry's Silver Rose Awards Gala and Auction to benefit the Jenessee Center. Viola was a presenter at the ceremony. Viola is one of my favorite actresses so I was super nervous to speak to her.  I remember how I tripped over my words when she was in front of me, but through the power of editing you don't get to witness that.  One day I hope to get a chance to do a sit down interview with her. She has so much wisdom to share in the journey that lead her to the amazing place she is in right now.  Watch my interview below.

Quencie Interviews Actress, Tichina Arnold

I interviewed the amazingly talented Tichina Arnold at the Icon Mann Power 30 Pre-Oscar Dinner. We talked about her beautiful daughter, Alijah, the huge impact of "Martin" and being a lupus advocate. Tichina's sister, Zenay Arnold, was diagnosed with lupus eight years ago, along with rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren’s Syndrome, Mixed Connective Tissue Disorder (MCTD), and Raynaud’s disease. She was told there was no cure and that these diseases could lead to her demise. Lupus is three times more common in black women than in white women and Tichina was adamant about women becoming aware.  Learn more at www.lupus.org and watch my interview with Tichina Arnold below.

Quencie Interviews Actor, Michael Ealy

Michael Ealy is the leading man in the ABC’s anthology series “Secrets & Lies” in which he stars opposite Juliette Lewis.  Based on the Australian TV series of the same name the show focuses on a case that will see Ealy as a man whose wife’s murder is under investigation, and, as you can expect, he becomes the prime suspect. We have known Michael Ealy because of his memorable roles in BarberShop, Think Like a Man Too,  For Colored Girls, and About Last Night.

Who doesn't love them some Brandy? Raising my hand, "I do, I do!"  I think she is one of the few people who love Whitney Houston as much as I do. It was so fun being able to interview Brandy on her way inside of Kym Whitley's birthday party.  She was as sweet as she was years ago when I met her on the set of Moesha.  Watch my interview with Brandy below.

Quencie interviews The Late Great Whitney Houston

It's been 18 years since I interviewed Whitney Houston on MTV.  She was and is still my favorite singer of all time.  This was not just your average interview, but more of a moment in time where I was afforded the opportunity to express just how much I loved Whitney.  Anyone who knows me can never forget how much I grew up loving Whitney Houston.  So, this was a big deal, not just because it was Whitney, but because I had been a lifetime fan.

Even though the MTV show I interviewed Whitney Houston on was entitled, 'FANatic,' I absolutely hated that word because to me it highlighted more of the crazy side of a fan instead of the love. So, the first chance I got, I told Whitney I was a friend not a Fan.  From that day on whenever Whitney and I saw each other, "Friend" is what she called me.  I will always love her for that!  Let's go back to 1998 and experience my dream come true interview with the one and only, Whitney Houston!

Quencie Interviews Yo Yo at TV One's Unsung Private Screening

Quencie Interviews Sheila E. [Studio Q Podcast]

I met Sheila E. after a Rachelle Ferrell show at the Catalina Jazz Club on Sunset in LA. Quencie Interviews Martha Wash [Studio Q Podcast]

Martha Wash has proven that her voice is like a fine wine - it gets better with time.  From her days as 1/2 member of the duo, The Weather Girls, who sang the iconic hit, "It's Raining Men", to C&C Music Factory's "Everybody Dance Now," Martha Wash is a legend in her own right.

Listen to my podcast interview with Martha Wash.  She dished on starting out as a background singer for Sylvester, being in Two Tons of Fun, celebrating the 30th Anniversary of "It's Raining Men" to releasing her Adult Contemporary album "Something Good" on her own label, Purple Rose.  This was more than an interview, this was a hilarious conversation that you are going to love to hear.  Get to know Martha like you never have before inside my Studio Q Lightning Round.  Support Martha Wash by going to Amazon or iTunes to purchase her new album, "Something Good."  Martha's album is beyond amazing and filled with instant favorites.  Yes, folks this legend still has it!
