According to Deadline, Grace Gibson (Black Navitity) will be playing R&B singer Faith Evans, the influential wife of Biggie Smalls AKA Notorious BIG, in the Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez On Me. Jamal Woolard, who played Biggie in the 2009 biopic Notorious, has already been cast in the role of Smalls. He, of course was the former friend turned bitter rival of Tupac. It was a photograph Tupac took with Faith Evans, that contributed in a large way to the conflict between the two rappers.
Gibson is the daughter of Emmy Award winning actress, Lynn Whitfield and the late Emmy Award winning director, Brian Gibson and a recording artist herself. Evans, who was the first female artist to sign with P. Diddy Combs via his Bad Boy Entertainment, became embroiled in the East Coast v. West Coast rap rivalry and was married to Biggie Smalls at the time of his death — being shot down in a drive-by outside the Petersen Auto Museum in Los Angeles.
Jeremy Haft and Ed Gonzalez penned the script and the film is being helmed by Benny Boom. James G. Robinson, David Robinson (via Morgan Creek Productions) and LT Hutton are producing. Shakur’s mom Afeni Shakur is getting an executive producer credit. The project follows the rise and senseless early death of the rapper on the Las Vegas strip when he was murdered in a drive-by shooting. Open Road is distributing the picture but the date has not been set.
